The iRobot Roomba 980 Robot Vacuum Cleaner
Robot vacuums remove pet hair, lint, and dust from the floor before they can settle. They also can avoid obstacles like furniture that is unstable and staircases.
Most robotic vacuums require maintenance, like emptying (and occasionally rinsing) the bin and wiping sensors and cameras. They also need to be connected. Many have smartphone apps to schedule, adjust settings and more.
Roomba 980 from iRobot
The iRobot Roomba 980, the most recent in a line of top-of-the-line robot vacuums, is a must for any modern home. This model is equipped with a HEPA-filter to assist those who suffer from allergies. Additionally, it also comes with a powerful battery that can clean up to two hours and it will automatically return to its dock when it is full.
It also has a feature called smart mapping which uses multiple sensors to suss out the areas in your home that require attention and make a tidy route around them. This technology is very effective at navigating around toys left on the floor or furniture legs sticking out underneath objects. It also has a sensor that snaps Roomba to its real-world location if it starts to wander away from its initial location.
iRobot has also added a new set of rollers beneath the Roomba's bottom that do not have bristles, and thus tend to resist tangles more than previous models. These are also a little taller than previous rollers and can better fit under beds and couches that are low and are designed to help this model navigate more easily on varying flooring types.
What makes the Roomba 980 stand out from other high-end models Its main feature is the incorporation of the latest dirt detection feature that uses cameras to identify bits of embedded dirt. This is a nice improvement over the previous version that relied on the sensor-driven pseudorandom cover method to bounce around a room and clean everything at least three times from different angles.
The Roomba 980 performed well in our tests on both carpets and hard floors. It scored very well on low-pile carpet and also on mid-pile. It did a decent job of picking up pet hair, but it had a difficult time with extremely thick and long pet fur that was clumped together.

The Roomba 980 is still one of the most efficient robots we've reviewed despite the slight limitations. It's also not as expensive as top-of-the-line models. eufy robot vacuum has a lot of features that we'd expect to see in a top-of-the-line model however, it doesn't come with all the fancy app-enabled functions or smart home integration that are found in other top contenders.
The iRobot Roomba is easy to set up and get up and running immediately. After taking off the pull tab for the battery and the yellow bin insert from undercarriage, all that you need to do is plug it into its Home Base docking station or an outlet on the wall, press its big "Clean" button and let it get to work. It will return to its dock when the battery runs out or it's full of debris. It also has indicator lights on the top for when the bin is full, it requires recharging, or its Wi-Fi signal is lost.
